When I was an NCOC student in the mid-90s, the financial aid office didn't even know that federal Pell grants had been raised. They were so out of touch. I had a friend who worked at another school fax them the new Pell grant chart. Offices would be open when the workers (many of whom were Gabel's chums and lived in Santa Rosa with him) felt like opening them; the arrogance and paternalism in all aspects of administration were really out of hand. Back then, WASC issued an accreditation report in which NCOC admins called students "highly intelligent misfits" and other nice things. NCOC has a long history of screwing its teachers and students. I'm glad Martin Hamilton is getting well deserved bad press finally. But it's too bad that Gabel and his cult didn't do right by students and get accreditation in hand last summer. Cripes! I earned my degree in 1998. I'm sorry for you folks who were midway through your careers there. A lawsuit really should be considered. Alumns might want to pay attention to this--who has our data and will issue our transcripts? I'm sorry as well to see what was actually a really neat program and a SF institution finally crumble.
